The Princess Who Liked To Be Popular

The Princess Who Liked To Be Popular has a new cover and a new font and some new information pages at the back about how to change the world, that make this colourful, glittery fairy tale even better!

For those who don’t know, let me remind you –

Princess Primrose loves to be loved so she always does her best to please everyone. Her father, the king, is worried that her need for popularity will get her into trouble but when he tries to explain that to her she disregards his advice. Consequently, when she is left in charge of the kingdom while her parents are away, she has to learn the hard way that it’s not always a good idea to give the people what they want.

The Princess Who Liked To Be Popular (which you can read for free at Violet’s Vegan Comics on the Fairy Tales page) is a colourfully illustrated fairy tale with the vegan message of causing no harm, of respecting nature, and of doing the right thing regardless of how unpopular it may make us; an old fashioned story with modern relevance. For reading to or with young children, or for children aged 8 and up to read alone.

Megan & Flos: OUT OF THIS WORLD

Megan & Flos: Out of this world is the second of our single episode comics to be released.  In this colourfully illustrated story, Megan & Flos have to go toe to toe with volpars who are trying to invade planet Felix Locus.  Will they succeed?  Will they be able to save the Felixians from a terrifying fate?  You’ll have to read the comic to find out 😮 or you could read the whole story on the e-comics site 😉  Either way, I think you’ll enjoy it.

One thing you won’t be able to get by reading it online is the game on the back! Yes, that’s right – the comic has a mini game board on the back and there’s instructions inside explaining how to play.

The Megan & Flos board game: Megan & Flos versus the journalist 😀 A relaxing bit of fun before bedtime 🙂

Marcus’s Wishes

Marcus’s Wishes is a short fairy tale about a boy who’s a bit fed up.  It’s Saturday and by rights he should be able to do whatever he wants, and eat whatever he wants, and stay in bed for as long as he wants for that matter, but though he wishes repeatedly for the freedom to do as he pleases, his mum, who needs his help at the allotment, is determined to get in the way.  In the end though, as you may have guessed, this being a fairy tale, he does manage to get a wish granted, but it’s not one you might expect 🙂

Marcus’s Wishes, the little fairy tale you can read for free on the e-comics site, is now available in mobi and epub as a downloadable ebook from The Vegan Bookstore for $1.49

The Rebel Gang and the Number Ciphers

The Rebel Gang and the Number Ciphers is finally available in paperback!  Woohoo!!!! 😀

Suspicious ciphertexts discovered by state investigators.  Assumed to be the correspondence of a hostile rebel gang.  Those in charge fear an attempt to overthrow the government.  M is tasked with tracking down the rebels, discovering their plans and bringing them to justice before they destroy civilization 😮

This is the classified document, complete with uncovered ciphertexts and suspect profiles, which details the investigation’s progress.

The Rebel Gang and the Number Ciphers is a funny, intriguing and sometimes badly-spelled code-cracking journey of discovery, illustrated with a mixture of collage and ink drawings.

This story is fiction and any resemblance to real people or events is entirely coincidental 😉

You can get a better look at the book here, and even read the whole story here for free if you like 🙂

Where are you going Deidra?

children's ebook

Deidra, a dairy cow, keeps disappearing and won’t tell anyone where she’s going.  Her friends are very curious but she’s not giving anything away and, since she’s always back by milking time, the farmer’s not worried.  In this colourfully illustrated short storty for little ones (ages 2 and up) you can find out what Deidra’s up to and why she needs to be so secretive about it.

Where are you going Deidra?, which is inspired by real life events,  has been around for a while  and the rhyming version of it is included the paperback “Why are you a vegan?” and other wacky verse for kids.  But now it has been digitally remastered (well, it’s got a new font 😉 ) and is available in mobi format (ie suitable for kindle) from The Vegan Bookstore at the very reasonable price of $0.99 USD

A lovely picture book with a happy ending to keep on your device 😀

Big Blue Sky: A Christmas Story

vegan Christmas story

This is the story of turkey brothers, Clarence and Luca.  They are growing up in a huge barn full of their peers on a so-called ‘free range’ farm.  There is access to the outside somewhere, so they’ve heard, but they can’t find it.  Christmas is approaching but Clarence and Luca don’t know anything about that, they don’t know what Christmas is.  All they can think about is how to get out of their crowded environment and see the big blue sky.  Luca says it exists, Clarence isn’t so sure.

Big Blue Sky is a moving and inspiring short story for little children which ends magically and happily  on Christmas Eve.  It is illustrated as a comic book, the story told through the speech bubbles of Clarence and Luca’s conversations.

The Wicked Witch’s Plan to Get Rid of Everyone

vegan fairy tale

The Wicked Witch’s Plan to Get Rid of Everyone is a grim and gruesome fairy tale in traditional style.  Written by Maud Earnshaw, the tale was originally published under the title The Wicked Wicked Witch and the Ruinous Manipulation and illustrated in black and white by the author, but this new edition, illustrated in full colour by Beatrice Wilberforce, is somehow even more creepy.

In spite of its old fashioned style and supernatural imaginings, this story is strikingly relevant and honest.  The author seems to have looked at the world and puzzled over a reality in which humans are determined to destroy the Earth they depend upon, and decided eventually that there must be some supernatural force – a spell – compelling people to act against all reason.

Beatrice Wilberforce illustrates this edition with original artwork collaged together from her own new drawings and pieces of illustration from other children’s books.  As a result, the images perfectly compliment the story, reflecting the theme of deception central to the prose.  Just as children’s story books often portray animal farming as a good and healthy, happy affair, they hide a sinister truth which is exposed by this book.  In Wilberforce’s collaged images, the truth peaks through the colourful lies.

This is a wonderful, short tale that every child should read so that they can break the spell and save the world.

Luke Walker: animal stick up for-er

vegan children's story

Luke Walker: animal stick up for-er

Luke Walker is an eight year old boy with a mind of his own. He’s noticed that life often isn’t fair for non-human animals; and that what adults tell him sometimes doesn’t make sense. Wanting to right wrongs, he becomes a vegetarian outlaw who will not play by the rules if the rules mean being unkind. He knows that, in order to do the right thing, he sometimes needs to be sneaky.

These first eight chapters of Luke Walker’s adventures sticking up for animals are funny, inspiring, and very entertaining. Great mischief, great adventures, great fun!

A constant trial to his parents and teachers, Luke Walker is a vegan Just William for the twenty first century.

Best read out loud 😀

Grandpa Wollemi’s Birthday

vegan children's book

Grandpa Wollemi’s Birthday

Another big and beautiful book by Edward Benn, Grandpa Wollemi’s Birthday doesn’t disappoint.  Beautifully illustrated in naïve style by Cynthia Barnett, this adorable story is about a child wanting to make something for Grandpa’s birthday.

Everyone is excited because it’s Grandpa Wollemi’s birthday.  Kauri has made him a present and Myrtle has made him a present, but Cedro just can’t think what to give him.  That is, until he remembers that Grandpa has a sweet tooth and decides to make him a birthday cake, all by himself. The simple egg-free recipe and how-to is described in the story so that readers will know how to make one themselves (with adult supervision of course 🙂 ).

Absolutely delicious! Why not try before you buy?
